10 Day Adventure Through Rwanda:Safari & Gorilla Trekking

Trip Overview

This 10-day epic Rwanda safari journey will provide you with wonderful memories of your Rwanda vacation. You will be able to see all three Rwandan parks, namely Nyungwe National Park, Volcanoes National Park, and Akagera National Park, as well as Lake Kivu. You will be able to interact with the local people as you go about your daily activities. You will be able to do gorilla trekking and chimp trekking, both of which are once-in-a-lifetime adventures.

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport.

After arriving at Kigali International Airport and passing through the immigration process, you will be greeted by our safari driver, who will brief you briefly and bring you to the booked hotel.

Day 2: Volcanoes National Park.

After breakfast, you will be picked up at your lodge and taken on a city tour of Kigali, including a visit to the Kigali genocide memorial ground, followed by lunch before being moved to Musanze in Volcanoes National Park for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking Adventure and cultural experience

After an early morning cup of coffee,you will head for the gorilla trekking briefing at the park headquarters. You will then be briefed before entering the jungle with your packed lunch to seek for  mountain gorillas and appreciate their way of life in their natural habitat. After you’ve met the gorillas, you can spend an hour photographing their social interactions. A good level of fitness is essential for a gorilla safari, as well as walking shoes, packed food and mineral water, insect repellent, sunscreen, and a hut. The gorilla tracking experience can last a half or full day, depending on the monkeys’ activity. After your gorilla tracking excursion, you will return to your lodge for lunch.After lunch, visit the cultural village to experience the local ways of living for Rwandans.

Day 4:Golden Monkey Trek  and transfer to Gisenyi.

After your early morning breakfast, you will be transferred to the park for a briefing before embarking on the golden monkey hike. The same approach for gorilla trekking also applies to golden monkeys. You will still have one hour with the golden monkeys. You will later return, eat lunch, and travel to Gisenyi, where you will spend the afternoon at leisure.

Day 5: Boat ride and Transfer to Nyungwe

After your early morning breakfast,you will head  out for a  boat ride in Lake Kivu, visiting various islands, and then be transferred to Nyungwe, which is around 2 hours away and offers a beautiful country side experience while gazing at the local community and traditional buildings along the way. We will arrive in the afternoon, eat lunch, and then relax for the rest of the afternoon.

Day 6: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk

Today, after an early morning cup of African coffee, you will leave your accommodation to explore Nyungwe’s natural forest, which is home to 13 species of primates, and be transferred to the park for a briefing and chimpanzee trekking. You will have one hour to find the chimps. After the chimpanzee hike, stop for lunch. In the afternoon, you will embark on a canopy walk excursion, during which you will explore the Park Forest via a 70-meter hanging metallic bridge.You will have Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 7: Transfer to Kigali.

After breakfast at the lodge, meet your guide and transfer back to Kigali, stopping along route at the King Palace Museum to learn about Rwandan culture. You will stop for lunch on the way to Kigali, where you will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 8: Transfer to Akagera National park with Boat trip

After an early breakfast at 8:00 a.m.,you will depart for Akagera National Park, which is approximately three hours distant. You will arrive in the park and check into your lodge, followed by lunch and either an afternoon wildlife drive or relaxation at the resort.

Day 9: Game drive in the Akagera National park

 Following an early breakfast at 7:00 a.m.,you will depart for a full-day game drive in Akagera National Park to meet up with late hunters and early risers.You will view wildlife such as elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, many antelope species, and the recently reintroduced lions and rhinos. The park provides a diverse habitat for fauna and numerous bird species, with over 500 bird species making it a bird watchers paradise. You will be served with dinner and  overnight at your accommodation.

Day 10: Departure

After breakfast, board your jeep and go to Kigali. If time permits, do a city tour for some shopping. Depending on your flight time, you will be transferred to the airport to catch your trip home.
