Tanzania Walking Safaris
If you enjoy walking, are in reasonably good shape, and are itching to get out of your vehicle for a while, stretch your legs, and be at one with nature, a walking safari might just be the perfect activity for you!
After an early breakfast and check-out, you will head to the ranger post, from where your guided walking safari will begin. Set off on foot in single file, accompanied by an armed and experienced park ranger who will teach you how to recognize and follow various wildlife tracks. As you make your way silently through the bush, all of your senses awakened, each and every sound, scent, and bent blade of grass will grab your attention. The vulnerability of being exposed is exhilarating, and the exercise rewarding. You will begin to notice the details – trees, tracks, small creatures, and birds – that your expert guide will point out along the route and that are often missed while in a vehicle.
These walks are most common in Tarangire and Arusha National Parks, where they usually take place early in the morning for 2-4 hours, either privately or in small groups. The walks are conducted in a way that ensures your safety and avoids disturbing the animals, who remain unaware and unthreatened by your presence.
Walking safaris are also available in the highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, along the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, as well as in the nearby Olmoti and Empakai craters.
