How to Get to Katavi National Park
🚗 By Road (For the Adventurous & Self-Driving Travelers)
Overland travel is possible but demanding. The route from Dar es Salaam stretches over 1,300 km (16–20+ hours), via Tabora or Mbeya; from Arusha it’s about 1,000 km (13–15 hours); from Mbeya, roughly 550 km (1–2 days drive); from Kigoma, around 390–400 km (8–10 hours) Unpaved sections are common, especially during the rainy season. A sturdy 4×4 is essential.
✈️ By Air (Fastest & Most Convenient)
Charter or scheduled domestic flights depart from major hubs like Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Mwanza, or nearby Ruaha and Mahale parks. Flights land at light aircraft airstrips, Sitalike, Mlele or Mpanda Airport, about 40 km north of the park.
