14-Day Bush-to-Beach Safari
Trip Overview
This super 14-day program offers a great mix of of wildlife viewing, eye-opening cultural experiences, and beach relaxation.
During the first nine days, you will visit all four of Tanzania’s most famous northern-circuit national parks – Tarangire, Lake Manyara, the Ngorongoro Crater, and the Serengeti; importantly, without having to rush. Moreover, we have interspersed into your safari some cultural visits with three of Tanzania’s most fascinating tribes: the Maasai, the Hadzabe, and the Datoga. This helps balance the time spent in your safari vehicle with time spent out of it!
After these wonderful experiences on the mainland, you will spend your remaining days on the Spice Island of Zanzibar, where the winding alleys of Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, compete for your attention with the pristine white-sand beaches and warm azure waters of the Indian Ocean!
DAY 1: WELCOME TO TANZANIA!
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met by your Tansafari-Tours driver-guide, who will transfer you to your hotel in Arusha and brief you about your safari.
DAY 2: Arusha – Tarangire National Park
Your driver-guide will collect you from your accommodation this morning after breakfast and, together, you will head to Tarangire National Park with packed lunches for the first game viewing of your Tanzanian safari. Lesser kudu, eland, gerenuk, and lion – among other animals – can be seen in this beautiful park, famous for its huge elephant population and its multitude of majestic baobab trees, some of which are more than 1,000 years old!
Late afternoon/early evening, head to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.
DAY 3: full day in Tarangire National Park
Enjoy another full day of game viewing in beautiful Tarangire, exploring areas of the park not covered yesterday for more exciting wildlife encounters! Head to your overnight accommodation before nightfall, where you can relax and review the day’s highlights.
DAY 4: Tarangire – Manyara National Park
After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Manyara National Park, located at the base of the western side of the Great Rift Valley. Described by the famous American writer Ernest Hemingway as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa,” this small and very beautiful park has a tremendous diversity of habitats. It is also rich in wildlife, with huge numbers of baboons and more than 400 recorded bird species. Two-thirds of the park is taken up by the lake, which is a hippo paradise. The lake’s grassy floodplains are dotted with large herds of buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and giraffe. If you are extremely lucky, you might even spot one of Manyara’s famous tree-climbing lions!!
Late afternoon, head to your accommodation in Karatu for dinner and overnight.
DAY 5: karatu – Lake Eyasi – Karatu
Today you will enjoy a day of culture with the Hadzabe and Datoga tribes of Lake Eyasi.
One of the last true bushman tribes in Africa, the Hadzabe live very much as they always have, despite Tanzania’s rapid development. With only 2,000 members, the Hadzabe are fascinating people who offer us a window into Tanzanian life in the past.
You will join the bushmen on a hunt, accompany the Hadzabe women on their search for wild tubers, baobab fruit, and berries, and have a go at using the bow and arrow.
The Datoga, in contrast, are pastoralists, moving from place to place to find good pasture for their animals. They are also blacksmiths and are known for their skill in making arrows, knives, and bracelets.
After a great day of tribal culture, you will visit some nearby onion fields before heading back to your accommodation in Karatu.
DAY 6: Karatu – Ngorongoro Crater
Today you will visit one of the gems of Tanzania’s northern-circuit parks – the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home of the Big Five. The crater is the world’s largest intact caldera, and, before collapsing, was probably once the size of Mount Kilimanjaro.
You will descend the 600 meters (approximately 2,000 feet) to the crater floor for what promises to be an exciting day of wildlife encounters. Explore the forest areas, the lake, and the open savanna where the lions roam. If you’re very lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the elusive black rhino! Lunch will be near the hippo pool.
Late afternoon, enjoy the views as you drive back out of the crater and onward to your overnight accommodation.
DAY 7: MAASAI VILLAGE & THE SERENGETI
After breakfast, you will proceed to the world-famous Serengeti, but not before visiting an authentic Maasai village. Here, you will learn more about the rituals and way of life of one of Tanzania’s most famous tribes. After this rich cultural experience, you will continue onward to the Serengeti National Park’s Naabi Hill Gate – the entry point for this spectacular wildlife habitat.
While your driver-guide takes care of the administrative details, you can stretch your legs with a walk to the small lookout point for some beautiful views.
You will then return to your vehicle and enjoy your first Serengeti game drive on the way to your overnight accommodation.
DAY 8: Full day in the Serengeti
Enjoy your first full day of game viewing in the Serengeti, with packed lunches. In the Maasai language, “seringit” means “endless plains,” and you will soon understand why! The Serengeti National Park stretches over 15,000 square kilometers (approximately 5,790 square miles) and is quite simply the most magnificent wildlife sanctuary in the world, unparalleled in natural beauty and wilderness. Return to your accommodation before dark for dinner and overnight.
DAY 9: FULL DAY IN THE Serengeti
Today you will spend another entire day game viewing in the Serengeti. The Serengeti is famed for its annual migration, when approximately 1.5 million wildebeest move en-masse throughout the Serengeti and Maasai Mara ecosystems, accompanied by hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles (and their hungry predators!), making a total of over two million migrating animals. Your guide will do his utmost to ensure you have the best experience possible according to the time of year you are traveling.
Early evening, return to your accommodation, where you can sip a sundowner, enjoy the sounds of the bush, and review the day’s excitement.
DAY 10: Serengeti – Zanzibar
Enjoy breakfast and an early-morning game drive before being transferred to the airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar, where you will spend your the remaining days of your trip.
Upon arrival, you will be greeted by your driver, who will transfer you to your beach accommodation.
Kick off your shoes and explore your new surroundings. Feel the sand between your toes, take your first dip in the warm ocean waters, enjoy a walk on the beach, or simply relax on a sunbed under the palm trees. You have arrived in Paradise!
DAY 11: enjoy paradise!
Enjoy the day at your leisure. Enjoy the ocean or pool, take a walk, read a book, or choose one of the many optional tours available: swimming with the dolphins, snorkeling, diving, a guided mudflat hike to a nearby reef, to name but a few. There are unlimited ways to personalize your stay in Zanzibar!
DAY 12: historic stone town & spice tour
Today you will take a private guided tour of historic Stone Town, including a visit to the former slave market and other interesting sites. You will also have time to stroll through the narrow, shady streets with their small shops and bazaars.
Last but not least, you will complete your visit with a fabulous spice tour, during which your senses will come alive!! Nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla, cocoa, carambola (star fruit), jackfruit, and durian are just a few of the spices and fruits that you will learn about during the tour!
Afterward, you will be driven back to your beach hotel, just in time to watch the gorgeous sunset over the Indian Ocean while sipping a delicious cocktail!
Day 13: Day at Leisure
Enjoy your last full day in Zanzibar at your leisure.

After breakfast, check out. You are welcome to use the shared facilities of your hotel until your departure.
